Fifth Grade Welcomes Mrs. Urman

As the fifth graders completed the novel, From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, the students delighted in Mrs. Cheryl Urman's (Art for Learning) visit.  She validated and confirmed many fascinating references found in the book. The children were mesmerized as Mrs. Urman presented photos of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, past and present, as well as slides of exhibits from the Egyptian, Renaissance, and furniture galleries. Mrs. Urman probed into the Italian Renaissance period, paralleling numerous references highlighted in the novel. There were moments of anguish as the children learned of the Egyptian embalming techniques and moments of awe as they gazed upon Michelango’s sculptures! What a treat! Our praises and thanks to Mrs. Urman for making the book come alive, and encouraging such an amazing fascination with art!
