Winter in First Grade First graders have started their penguin unit for winter. We love reading all the books by Helen Lester about the adventures of an odd bird named Tacky. The stories teach self-esteem as they deliver great laughs about Tacky's interesting life with his penguin friends at the South Pole. We are writing our own stories, and reading non-fiction books about penguin life as well. Did you know that the father Emperor penguin holds its baby's egg and keeps it warm while the mom looks for food? First graders are excited about learning everything they can about these adorable creatures! |
