Science With the Senses

What’s that delicious smell coming from the first grade classrooms?  I think I hear a popping sound! These are some of the comments you might be hearing in the first grade.
            This Thursday, we began the second half of our science program.  Mrs. Barbara D’Amico, the school science teacher, comes into our classroom once a week to do special “hands-on” science activities with each class.  The topic we are learning is The Five Senses. How exciting it is each week to see what new goodies Mrs. D’Amico has on her traveling cart.  We never know what surprises she has in store for us, but we get to use all of our five senses to find out!
            So what was that mysterious popping sound that we heard with our sense of hearing?  That yummy smell that we noticed with our sense of smell?  We used our sense of sight to look under Mrs. D’Amico’s mystery box to see – popcorn!  Of course for the best part of the lesson, we got to use our sense of taste.  Mmmm… delicious!
