First Graders Learn About Penguins First graders have started their fun penguin unit for the winter. We love reading all the books by Helen Lester about the adventures of an odd and funny penguin named Tacky. Lessons of self-esteem are gleaned from the stories, as well as great laughs about Tacky's interesting life with his penguin friends in the South Pole.We are writing stories and reading non-fiction books about penguin life as well. Did you know that the father Emperor penguin holds its baby's egg and keeps it warm while the mom looks for food? First graders are excited about learning everything they can about these adorable creatures!
