100th Day of School
What an exciting week in K-4! Monday was the 100th Day of School!
On the first day of school we started counting the number of school days. We recorded the days by placing dots on a ten frame, keeping track of the days in sets of ten. Finally on March 3, 2008, we had 10 sets of 10, or 1 set of 100!
For the 100th day of school we
• created 100 Froot Loop necklaces
• read our morning message, which had 100 words
• counted 100 items that our classmates brought from home
• created unifix cube trains that were 100 cubes long
• drew pictures of what we look like now and what we will look like when we are 100
• read many terrific 100-day books; our favorite: Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th day of Kindergarten
The highlight of our 100th day was celebrating with Mrs. Gartenberg's first grade class. Each child from K-4 teamed up with a child from 1-4. The partners counted for each other as they jumped 100 times, touched their noses 100 times and hopped on one foot 100 times. The partners also played "100 Day counting game," and had fun on a 100-day Hershey Kiss Hunt. The two classes work ed wonderfully together.
We can now count and recognize numbers up to 100. We can count and group by tens. We’ve learned that 100 can be counted in many ways: 10 sets of 10, 4 sets of 25, 5 sets of 20, or 2 sets of 50. Our 100th day of school has passed, but the learning continues.
