100th Day of School
On Wednesday, March 4th 2008 we celebrated the 100th day of Kindergart en. Since our first day of school, we have been counting days on our chart, adding a number every day. You can just imagine how exciting it was to reach “100.” We decorated the room with signs of “100.” We read number books and we baked a cake and decorated it with 100 jellybeans which we enjoyed for snack. A challenge that was available to the children was to fill in all the numbers of a “100” number chart. Working in pairs and triads, the children collectively worked to form a number line from one to one hundred which is now hanging across a wall in our room. This activity was good cooperative learning for the children. For a culminating 100th day activity, K-5 got together with class 1-1 for some joint activities. Our children worked together in pairs with a partner from the first grade. They enjoyed being together and interacting in a wonderful way. In our daily counting to reach day 100, there has been much meaningful learning about numbers and their relationships.
