On Wednesday, March 4th 2008 we celebrated the 100th day of Kindergarten. Since our first day of school, we have been counting days on our chart, adding a number every day. You can just imagine how exciting it was to reach “100.” We decorated the room with signs of “100.” We read number books and we baked a cake and decorated it with 100 jellybeans which we enjoyed for snack. A challenge that was available to the children was to fill in all the numbers of a “100” number chart. Working in pairs and triads, the children collectively worked to form a number line from one to one hundred which is now hanging across a wall in our room. This activity was good cooperative learning for the children. For a culminating 100th day activity, K-5 got together with class 1-1 for some joint activities. Our children worked together in pairs with a partner from the first grade. They enjoyed being together and interacting in a wonderful way. In our daily counting to reach day 100, there has been much meaningful learning about numbers and their relationships.
