Fourth Graders Welcome Special Guest

Patrick Garner from “History’s Alive” made a guest appearance for our lucky 4th Graders this week. The fascinating life and times of the Wright Brothers was explored by Mr. Garner with assistance from our talented students. Mr. Garner recounted Orville, Katherine and Wilbur’s ideas for invention and problem solving. In a space of just over four years, the Wright Bothers solved a problem that had been vexing man for thousands of years-man powered flight. After researching all the data on previous experiments, as well as their own resources and life experiences, they utilized the scientific method and tested their theory of “wing warping” by flying their glider as a large kite. After numerous construction changes, and many modified experiments, Orville Wright made the first successful engine powered flight on December 17, 1903 which lasted only twelve seconds and covered 120 feet!! Our 4th graders were mesmerized by Mr. Garner and all the incredible information they discovered about the invention process.
