Under the Sea

On April 30th the east wing of Moriah undulated: blue ribbons danced, fish swam, and foil sea foam sparkled. Fifth graders and their families gathered to experience the culmination of two months of research on oceanography. The students had formal instruction in taking notes, writing a research report, and compiling works cited. Each student described a part of his or her research to the visitors, and answered questions following the presentations. Projects positioned on desks and walls were also explained and enjoyed, as were their beautiful slideshows. It was a lively, interesting evening of undersea immersion!

As a conclusion to their exciting and fabulous unit, the students are slated for a special trip in mid June, aboard the Hudson River Clearwater sloop, which will involve many experiments and wildlife instruction. The experience should reinforce all the incredible knowledge fifth graders have acquired. It has been a period of study that will be a part of each student always!
