Teachers Learning, Teachers Growing: A Message from Dr. Prager

One of Moriah’s most cherished goals is creating a community of life-long learners.  Just as our students to constantly grow and strive ever higher, so our teachers need to continually grow as well.  This past Tuesday, Election Day, the entire Moriah faculty was immersed throughout the day in a vast array of learning opportunities as part of our in-service day program.  Following an outstanding keynote presentation by Columbia University professor, Joanne Baney, each department devoted the remainder of the day to collaborative learning in their respective areas – Early Childhood literacy development, curriculum development in teaching Hebrew language, using professional teaching standards in Limudei Kodesh, use of activity centers in the non-frontal classroom, meeting the needs of special needs students, …. The list goes on and on.

With each in-service faculty day I am continually impressed not only by the variety and richness of the training and growth opportunities which we provide for our teachers, but the thirst for new knowledge and skills which they themselves demonstrate on a daily basis. While we are blessed to be able to offer the kinds of professional development experiences which continually take us to higher levels of excellence, we are even more blessed to have a team of teachers whose dedication and commitment to learning is truly exemplary.
