Early Childhood's Zoo-venture
Parshat Noach is chock-filled with experiential opportunities for PreK and Kindergar ten children to explore nature. Science lessons utilizing water, as well as sinking and floating experiments abounded. Math games illuminating the concept of “pairs”, as well as animal-related books, songs, and lessons rounded out our curriculum. But the climax of our week was our trip to the Petting Zoo which came to visit Moriah on Friday, October 31. Each Pre-K and K class had an opportunity to pet, feed, and observe so many interesting animals, thanks to Rabbi Avraham and his friends. He brought us his friendly alpacas, furry goats, ponies, and sheep, his scaly blue-tongued lizard, prickly hedge hog, fluffy rabbits, slithery ball python snake, and big old tortoise to delight the children. They had lots of fun petting and feeding these friendly critters. A highlight of our morning was watching a fun-loving monkey put on a show for us. The children’s eyes lit up as they saw Mr. Monkey feeding himself yogurt, putting a coin in a tzedakah box, and drinking grape juice for Kiddush! The bouncy hay-ride around the Frisch building was a great treat for our children, as well. Learning through these fun-filled modalities gives the children at Moriah experiences they will not soon forget.
