Third Grade Math Program

Have you ever wished you could have your child's textbook at home with you as your child does his/her math homework? Are you left wondering how certain concepts are taught in school? Wish math was more interactive? This year, third grade (and grades 1 and 2) received a brand new Scott Foresman math program. While the book itself is colorful, interesting, and realistic, the resources that come along with it are even better. The program features a problem of the day, interactive and visual learning, games to go along with each lesson, and of course, the online component, the newest addition. In class, students can watch an entire math lesson on the computer, manipulate objects, pause and discuss, and so forth. They love how the computer "talks" to them. We just started learning about money and one of the electronic manipulatives features a hammer that can break a dollar into four quarters, or a dime into two nickels. It also has a bottle of glue that can combine two quarters to make a half-dollar. And that's only the money tools! There are also tools for place value, fractions, time, and more.

Students receive usernames and passwords so they can log on at home. There, they can access their textbook, weekly homework, practice problems, visual glossary and the electronic manipulatives, perhaps the most fun. Parents in third grade, take a look, and log on! The third grade teachers look forward to a great and exciting year in math.
